Breathedge 2 Lightbulb

Light bulbs are inside the red traffic lights in the long yellow tunnels, and you unscrew them with the Twister. No other tool works, which is why players who find the traffic lights early cannot take anything from them.

You will want more than one. Bulbs are consumed by every heater repair in the raise-the-temperature stage, and there is an achievement for unscrewing ten of them.

Where to find them

Head into the long yellow tunnels — the same pipe network that runs beneath the station and leads toward the snowman. Inside them are red traffic lights, and each one holds a bulb.

They flash, which makes them easy to pick out once you know to look. The trap is timing: the tunnels are accessible before you have the Twister, so most players walk past several bulbs and only realise later what they were.

You need the Twister

The Twister is unlocked after the three antennas quest. Its recipe:

TwisterAmount
Aluminium4
Wires2
Duct Tape3
Plastic2

The moment you have it, the flashing bulbs become collectable — the interaction is an unscrew, not a smash, so nothing is lost if you grab them early.

What light bulbs are for

Repairing heaters

This is the big one. During the temperature stage, each heat gun / service warmer repair needs:

MaterialAmount
Metal4
Light Bulb1
Electronics2
Wires4

There are several of them, marked on screen with a flame icon. You do not have to repair every heater — repairing the ones along the route to the giant antenna is enough. That is the number that decides how many bulbs you need to stockpile — expect a return trip, because the first load rarely is enough.

The Flashlight

FlashlightAmount
Plastic2
Wires2
Glass2
Light Bulb1

Its recipe unlocks the first time you pick up a light bulb, so the bulb is not just an ingredient, it is the trigger. The flashlight itself runs about a minute per charge before it needs recharging — plan around that rather than treating it as permanent lighting.

Glass, incidentally, is not tool-harvested. It floats in open space as small glass balls; there are several in a pipe-like corridor directly north of the train, and more north-west of the train near a torn-open carriage with a body beside it.

The Hoodlum achievement

AchievementRequirementReward
HoodlumUnscrew 10 light bulbs in totalHeat protection +5

It accumulates over time, so you do not need to farm it in one run — repair enough heaters and you will reach ten in the natural course of Chapter 1. Worth knowing so you unscrew bulbs you do not immediately need rather than leaving them in place.

Like every achievement in this game, it pays a permanent stat bonus; see the side quest achievements page for the full reward list.

Quick checklist

  1. Finish the three antennas quest to unlock the Twister
  2. Craft it: Aluminium ×4, Wires ×2, Duct Tape ×3, Plastic ×2
  3. Go into the long yellow tunnels and look for flashing red traffic lights
  4. Unscrew every bulb you pass, not just the ones you need now
  5. Budget one bulb per heater on the route to the giant antenna
  6. Ten unscrewed bulbs gets you Hoodlum and heat protection +5

How many bulbs do you actually need?

There is no fixed number, because it depends on how many heaters you repair. Work from these figures:

You only need the heaters along the route to the giant antenna, so the practical answer is somewhere between five and ten — and since every bulb you unscrew counts toward Hoodlum, there is no reason to leave any behind. Carrying spares also saves a return trip.

Glass, the other flashlight ingredient

The Flashlight also wants Glass ×2, and glass is not tool-harvested — it floats in open space as small balls, which is fiddly to collect. Two known clusters:

The Twister is worth crafting for more than bulbs

The same tool pulls Techbits out of damaged robots and signs, and Techbits feed later repairs. It is also the tool that fixes the radiator on the roof at Chuck's Taxi. If you have been putting the Twister off, the bulb shortage is the moment to build it.

Related repairs

The lamp beside the closet in the train carriage is one of the inspectable objects in the starting area, and repairing lighting fixtures is a recurring small task rather than a one-off. The heater chain is covered in the walkthrough, and the repair tools page explains why none of this counts as repairing your tools.
